Princess Aurora's Surprise

Well, last night I was up half the night thinking and worrying that shy small little Merrywether was going to deliver during the night. She looks so ready. She can barely walk and has been very solicitous of affection. She has been this way for the last month though but yesterday I thought, that's it. Tonight's the night. Not yet. Standing in the barn at mid day with two wet lambs was not Merrywether but Princess Aurora who has shown no sign of impending birth. These girls are soooo unpredictable. Oh and they too are solid black, a boy and a girl. Thank goodness a girl. So now we have 6 solid black lambs, four of which are rams. I don't know Lincoln...........

The Spin Garden

No it's not a garden of wool for spinning. Spin Farming is a type of rotational planting for small spaces. It started as an urban movement to bring farming to inner cities. It is designed to bring maximu profit from a small plot. AllOneFarm will have about a 1/4 acre dedicated to the Spin Garden this year. Although NoTilling is recommended, I was not able to get the ground prepared in the fall with mulch so I opted for a light tilling to remove the sod this year. Row will be tightly packed to minimize weeding. No pesticides will be used. Only organic compost will be used for fertilization. Watering is still to be worked out. Blinkin' and Nod

Angelica the sweet Yuglit Shetland presented twin ram lambs, Blinkin' and Nod, one week ago. Check out the white tufts around their ears and forehead. Shetlands have names for every type of marking.

A Yuglit has dark marks around the eyes and face and white wool. A Moorit has chocolate brown wool like Henna who's beautiful face graces the header above. She is unusual because of her horns.

The newborn twins take their first steps. They are small and weak and Mama Angelica seems dazed by the whole process.

Today they are one week old and they are strong and healthy and Mama is doing better, too.
